The Story So Far... (by Pete the Pirate)
[Best read in an old pirate voice]"We pirates of old were not all as bad a lot, as many folks think. Many believed we just sat an waited for rich ships to come along so's we could plunder them for their treasures. The truth is you could go for several months at sea an never see's another vessel. let alone one with a cargo worthy of stealing."
"Like many pirate ships we are traders. We would ship things from one place to another but should we come across another craft which looked like it could have rich pickings, why, we'd haul up the Jolly Roger and go after em!"
"Come join us aboard The Tessa Jones me hearty in the game of Doubloons Ahoy. There be cargo to slide about as you seek out golden Doubloons and match up things to sneak out before old Captain Deihard finds out somethin' is missing. Come join us as we sail the seven seas for booty to add to our treasure."
"Course, it ain' t all plain sailing. Most ships have rats but the rats on board the Tessa Jones seem to have got a likin' for shiny things as well as our corn, so watch yer Doubloons Matey or they may pinch em!"
"No experience necessary although, if ye knows a thing or two about catching rats you'd be well in with the crew. You can enroll today as a Cabin Boy and under the guidance of Captain Diehard and Ships Master Carrynon, you can work yer way up the ranks."
"We won't works yer too hard on yer first days and if you got the Doubloons, we'll learn yer the ropes to become a sailor and who knows? This time next week you could be made Coxswain (that be a Junior Officer to you matey) or even First Mate! "

Doubloons Ahoy begins with easy levels which progressively get more difficult to solve.
The initial object of the game is to earn Doubloons by solving puzzles. These puzzles involve sliding crates to earn Doubloons, pairing up the crates contents to match up the pairs to locate an odd one and sliding the odd one out before Captain Diehard notices there is an odd one and assumes its pair to have been stolen.
As your skill at these simple tasks develop, so the games become a little harder, particularly with the distraction of the ships rats that run around the outside of the game screen.
The rats are actually quite harmless [and rather cute if I may say so] but some have a liking to shiny things, like gold doubloons and will run off with your hard earned gains given the chance!
Several puzzle games can be completed each day on board the Tessa Jones but a Gold Doubloon is required at the start of each day for board and lodging. Captain Diehard commands with fear and the “fear of loss” can cause even a lazy person to “get to work” far better than any cat of nine tails! Naturally, failure to pay means you are simply not working hard enough and so are forced to walk the plank!
Promotion is on offer to those who work hard and do well. Promotion can bring bigger rewards and also responsibilities with keys to normally locked doors below deck.
These keys allow access to sections below deck where you need to use hand/eye co-ordination to navigate a 3D maze armed with just a lamp and a net to catch the rats which are beginning to become a nuisance.
The amount of time permitted to accomplish each level depends upon your skill but the Doubloons collected can be used to “buy more time” on any level. How or when you use these doubloons are entirely up to you but it is wise to save them for when you need them the most.
Below deck takes you below in 3 dimensions where even the simplest of mazes can become complicated when viewed “head-on”. Iinitially there is only a small area to deal with so although it might appear daunting at first encounter, it is actually quite easy. Armed with just a lamp and a net, you must catch your quota of rats AND return to the start before your lamp oil is exhausted and darkness engulfs you.
Refilling your lamp costs one Doubloon but as you get to know the layout down in the hold and can navigate faster, so the task becomes easier. Below deck is surprisingly large however and may require you to purchase oil refills for your lamp in order to complete some of the tasks.
Once all the keys have been won, the final challenge is reveled.
